The Atlantic haddock is a small but important member of the cod family. The haddock, like its relatives, the Atlantic Cod and Atlantic Pollock, is a cold water species that occurs around wrecks, rocky outcrops, and offshore shoals.
Haddock can be identified by a black lateral line running along the side and a distinctive dark blotch above the pectoral fin. Adults usually weigh 2 to 5 pounds.
Haddock are caught using the same baits and techniques as other cod. Atlantic haddock yield mild white fillets with excellent table quality.
