Longfin albacore tuna are one of the smaller tunas that occur off the Mid Atlantic coastline. Longfin usually appear late in the season and are among the last tuna to be caught.
They are associated with deep water; the best albacore fishing usually occurs beyond the offshore canyon walls.
Longfin albacore are usually caught by trolling, although they can also be caught by chunking. They often travel in schools and multiple hookups are common while trolling.
Albacore respond to many of the same lures and spreads that are used for catching yellowfin tuna.
