Atlantic pollock are olive-green above, fading to yellowish-gray, with silver-gray on the belly. Pollock have a white lateral line and small chin barbel.
Pollock are distinguished from other cod by their pointed snout, projecting lower jaw, rounded body, and forked tail.
Pollock are often caught around wrecks, rock piles, and other deep water structure. Pollock sometimes orient at mid-depth, where they can be caught successfully using metal jigs.
Pollock average 4-15 pounds although trophy-class fish can weigh up to 40 pounds. The flesh of Atlantic pollock is lean but darker in color than cod.
