The ocean sunfish (mola mola) is one of the most unusual fish that is seen in the Mid Atlantic region. Ocean sunfish are found off the Atlantic coast from near shore to the deepwater canyons and beyond.
Ocean sunfish are often seen basking on the surface during calm weather. They sometimes orient to wrecks, buoys, weedlines, or other surface objects.
Ocean sunfish are slow swimmers and because they frequent the surface, are sometimes injured by boat propellers and other hazards.
