The James River Bridge Fishing Pier is located adjacent to Huntington Park off Interstate 64 in Newport News Virginia.
As its name implies, the pier is located on the lower James River, near its merger with Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Running parallel to the pier is the new James River Bridge (JRB), which spans the river between Newport News and Isle of Wight County.
Anglers fishing at James River Bridge Fishing Pier may catch croaker, spot, striped bass, flounder, gray trout, red drum, kingfish, ribbonfish, blue catfish, channel catfish, blue crabs, and other species.
Pier Construction
The James River Fishing Pier consists of a section of the old James River Bridge, which has been lengthened and improved over time. The first section of Phase I of the pier extended 900 feet into the river.
An additional section completed Phase I with a total 1,252 foot pier, floating dock, and gangway. The pier is is 24 feet wide at the base and transitions to 12 feet in width for the remainder of the pier.
Phase II of the project will extend the pier a projected additional 1,400 feet.
